Grammar Sprinkles: Masculine nouns in -ος

Today's handout is a short note on the conjugation of the masculine nouns ending in -ος.

www.greek4kids.eu/Greek4Kids/GrammarSprinkles/MasculineNounsOs.pdf

In Greek, nouns are masculine, feminine or neutral. The way they are conjugated depends on their gender as well as their ending. In this first handout, we see the conjugation of the masculine nouns that end in -ος.

The cases represent the different instances of the noun. You may use the noun as a subject (nominative), as a belonging word (possessive), as an object (accusative) or a calling word (vocative). You can find examples of the different instances (cases) of the noun in the handout.

The handout is also available in English.

Grammar Sprinkles: Present tense (Type I)

Today's handout is a short note on the present tense of verbs belonging to Type I.

www.greek4kids.eu/Greek4Kids/GrammarSprinkles/VerbIPresent.pdf

Type 1 verbs are the most common verbs in the Greek language.

In Greek, there is a different ending for each person. You see the endings on the right hand side of the table, after the dash. The first part, the theme of the verb, stays the same and by changing the ending you can refer to I, you, he/she/it, us, you, they (personal pronouns). If you need to refresh the personal pronouns, visit our handout on the pronouns.

There could be any noun in place of each pronoun.

For example:
Εγώ και οι φίλοι μου παίζουμε ποδόσφαιρο. Εμείς παίζουμε ποδόσφαιρο.
My friends and I play football. We play football.

You can also find other common verbs which follow the same conjugation (Type I). All in a short colourful handout!

The handout is also available in English.

Colouring page: In the sea

My children love colouring! Colouring by number is an activity they enjoy. Today's colouring page is about the sea creatures. A girl is snorkeling and sees a dolphin, a turtle, a crab, an octopus, a shark, clams, shells, sea-weed, fish and even a sea-horse. Look out for the circles on the creatures and use the equivalent colour!

Topic Saturdays: Geography

Saturdays are dedicated to something more than the Greek Language. Saturday posts are all about culture. We are going to explore different aspects of the Greek culture together, always in a fun and creative way. Let's see how well you know the Geographical Regions of Greece!

www.greek4kids.eu/Greek4Kids/Worksheets/TopicSaturdayGeografikaDiamerismata.pdf

This is an A3 printable that you could print in A4 as well. Cut the rectangles with the names of the different geographical regions (left hand side) and stick them on the map. If you laminate the paper and then cut the rectangles, you will be able to make this into a re-usable activity for home or school use.

What other topics besides Geography would you like to see featured on our Topic Saturdays?

You can find the Geographical Regions of Greece on our shop. You may opt for a digital or hard copy. The hard copy is printed on glossy paper and has velcro attachments (behind the rectangles and their place on the map) for re-usability.
